Starling bank is a highly bold and playful brand, which uses bright colours and strong but simplistic typography, which is very much suited to an online focused brand, aiming at a younger target market of bank users.

I am extremely interested in the layout of its spending data.

This data is laid out in a circle, rather than purely by figures or a simple bar. This creates an interesting pictorial visualisation of the user’s spending, in a playful, unorthodox method, which is not only appealing to the eye, but also highly effective at conveying the necessary information to the user, without unnecessary frivolities. I admire this method of data visualisation, and will take inspiration from it in my app, when displaying the user’s account balance and spendings.

The layout of the app is simple and accessible, all data can be easily found and functions can be navigated easily, which is paramount in my opinion, for an online focused service.

Although the colour scheme works well on screen, I find that the white of the word mark is somewhat difficult to distinguish on their light blue bank cards
