I was surprised by how simple it was to create prototypes on Draft XR through Figma. I also enjoyed reviewing my Figma prototype through a VR headset, which added a level of immersion, which is further enhanced when viewing screens layered over the real life surroundings (AR). In addition to a dashboard version of the project, I will also adapt it to run on Draft XR so that users can access and control their homes remotely, as in the future I foresee AR glasses and gesture controls becoming mainstream due to their ease of use and immersiveness.
Based on my desk research last week, I created user personas of two potential types of user.
My first user is interested in smart home technology as a way to reduce environmental damage, but is dissatisfied with current solutions due to the high cost of owning devices and energy wasted just by leaving smart technology running. To meet the needs of this user, I will use a system of resource sharing, where users generate their own renewable energy, and are incentivised to share it with their community by giving them money off their next year’s subscription. This subscription service would also allow them included access to smart appliances, equipment and autonomous vehicles owned by their community.

My second persona is a remote worker who feels isolated from his peers due to being out of the office, and isolated from his local community due to long working hours. To meet this user’s need, the product will include smart devices for household chores so that he has more time to socialise and engage in recreation, and also options to engage with members of your own community and others around the world at home through VR.
