I found it interesting to learn this week about how costs are calculated in freelance work and the salary ranges of designers at each stage of their careers. When working on the tender document in the upcoming few weeks I will use the same model of cost calculation I learnt in the lecture from this week, calculating based on an hourly salary, and expected working hours. I find this to be a logical way of working and likely saves any misconceptions when clients are already aware how long each stage of the process will take and what they will be paying for each stage.
For my initial research I searched the existing facilities, and digital media and services of the Titanic Quarter. The current website is quite comprehensive and useful, detailing some of the history of the quarter, and offering information about events and places to stay in the area. In my opinion, due to the amount of hotels in the area, its central position in the city, rich history and cultural significance, an optimal path to go down in the redevelopment would be to increase tourist footfall through a website or app dedicated to tourist needs, and a unique experience to draw more people into the area who wish to learn about its history. A promising idea i had for this is a VR experience. I feel this would be useful because of the fame that the Titanic has brought to Belfast, and the history of ship building in Belfast’s industrialisation. Through the VR experience, users would be able to view ships being built in real time in front of their eyes, which I believe would be a successful addition to the already popular Titanic themed tourist experiences users can visit in the quarter.
